Overview
What do you look for when you visit a country for the first time? I normally want to hear about the history of the country and meet some of it’s people, see some of the sights and taste something extraordinary. My golden circle tour is like this, a mixture of knowledge about Iceland’s history and it’s people, culture and food. We also get to see some of the special sites that the area offers, Thingvellir, Geysir, Gullfoss & Fridheimar.
At Fridheimar, you can have delicious food that is prepared for you from fresh ingredients from the area and of course experience having lunch inside a fully operational tomato greenhouse.
At the Secret Lagoon (optional), the country’s oldest swimming pool, you can relax in the warm hot spring water before we head back to Reykjavik. Truly, a wonderful and packed day of knowledge, good humor, good food, excellent company and magnificent landscape!
The golden circle is the most popular day tour in Iceland. It is hard to describe the beauty of Icelandic nature but on this tour you get to see Iceland’s largest lake, lake Thingvellir, and the national park of Thingvellir. At Thingvellir, in the year 930, the settlers founded our parliament and named it Althingi. At Thingvellir you can also see how the separation of the tectonic plates affects the landscape. At the park there is also the beautiful Oxararfoss waterfall. Geysir geothermal area is an amazing stop where you can see the spouting hot spring Strokkur. Gullfoss waterfall is the queen of Iceland’s waterfalls, high and mighty. A delicious lunch stop awaits you at Fridheimar tomato farm. If you like, (added extra) you can then take a dip into the Secret Lagoon, Fontana Spa or the new Laugaras lagoon on our way back to Reykjavik.
